Empowerment To Be

Together We Can Achieve Anything

Book Excerpts from Fruits of Our Labor

Immaculate University

We come to you

with open minds

to learn all you have to teach

and receive all you have to preach

we strive to reach

and survive for each

but it appears that our skin is not bleached

therefore we lag behind

this is not our design

so we swing from Heaven’s vine

and sip the grapes’ wine

to communicate effectively

no more learning in a state dependent

but educated in a state independently transcended

amongst the masses

as we all look through shaded glasses

we see you in your truest form

taking us through the storm

while keeping our spirits warm

in a place we call home

no longer followers of the pack

or excited to eat your scraps

or continuously lying there while you walk on our backs

Yes, We are black

not like the hue

but like the race of folks that always pull through

for generations there were no celebrations

but now we celebrate / the date / we graduate

from second-class of the past

to the pioneer of every premiere

we have evolved

despite the fight against our progress

and we refuse to regress

back to the shelter of our mother’s nest

since birth

from Mother Earth

we had to overcome adversity

now we attend the Institution of higher learning

aptly named

Immaculate University.

My Brother

Thou shall not be weak

for it is in the essence

of God’s presence

which allows us to stand

and bare witness to anew day

for freedom dances to a liberated measure.

No longer can we crutch onto the captivity of da whyte man

simply because we live in this life of condemnation

drink from this river of separation

and cultivate our minds with preparation

we are reparation

of an incalculable compensation

planted knowledge of a generational struggle

fertilized by several lessons before dying

not only on the row of the chosen few

but upon each soil that composites the grain

and provide us with adequate sustenance

to deposit the nutrients of a heaven’s rain.

Our cognition is malnourished no more

we have laid waste to the seeds

and the pits of fruitless trees

in exchange for an abundant orchard

plentiful to fortify the pitiful

creating a mass market of overachievers

doctors, engineers, inventors, and leaders

representing a heirarchial mind

amass the pinnacle line

where we father our sons

my brother the time has come.

Conversations With God

Child: Father give me hope!

Father: Hope has no place with me

for I am the root amongst the trees

and if you should ever call upon bended knees

I will rescue you from the depths of bottomless seas.

Child: Give me vision!

Father: I have given you vision

not from thine eyes in which to see,

but from faith that you should have within me

and know that nothing upon this earth is greater than I

therefore, your vision should never flee.

Child: But I need something concrete!

Father: My love for you is so concrete

that in seven days you could build your world upon it

and pollute the very air that sustain

the reason you are able to maintain

and that foundation for which you have built

will not give way to the slightest tremble

no matter how much your faith has dwindled

I will never forsake or deceit you

and will forever keep you.
